PRESS RELEASE

The project makes the company the market leader in the South Australia region in terms of installed capacity, with nearly 1,000 MW

Iberdrola completes the wind farm for its first hybrid power plant in the world: Port Augusta

  • The initiative combines a wind farm with an installed capacity of 210 MW and a photovoltaic power plant of 107 MW
  • The company already operates 800 MW of renewable energy in Australia, has 453 MW under construction and a development pipeline of over 1,000 MW

Iberdrola has completed the installation of the last wind turbine of its first wind-solar hybrid project in the world: Port Augusta, located in the state of South Australia, comprising 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar panels.

The renewable facility combines 210 MW of wind power with 107 MW of photovoltaic power and will generate enough clean power to meet the equivalent demand of 180,000 Australian homes per year once it is commissioned in the next few months. month. The project represents an investment of A $ 500 million.

The renewable energy supply to Port Augusta will help reduce consumer electricity prices and facilitate the decarbonization of South Australia’s economy.

The Spanish company Elecnor is the company in charge of the construction of the plant’s substation and transmission line, as well as the storage areas and access roads;

Vestas installed the 50 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 4.2 MW;

Longi supplies some 250,000 solar panels for the photovoltaic plant; and Sterling & Wilson will be responsible for its construction.
